Crafting Tradition, One Vine at a Time

About Delany Vineyards

OUR FOUNDER

Delaney Vineyards was established in the late 1980s by Texas natives Jerry and Blanca Delaney. As a third-generation cotton farmer from West Texas, Jerry, along with his wife Blanca, ventured into the realm of viticulture after recognizing the potential of the local climate and soil. They remain the founders and sole owners of two operational vineyards and wine production facilities in Texas. Jerry, having grown up running around the plains of West Texas, seized the opportunity to purchase cotton fields in his hometown, transforming them into successful vineyards with the support and vision of Blanca. Together, they have nurtured Delaney Vineyards into a renowned name in the Texas wine industry.

From Cotton to Grapes: A Bold Experiment

Our initial venture began in Lamesa, TX, a dry county where planting vineyards posed unique challenges. Undeterred, we expanded our efforts to Grapevine, TX, where the lack of historical data on grape growing required us to experiment with different grape varieties. The initial planting of typical vinifera grapes struggled against the region’s hard clay soil, high humidity, and hot summers. However, with advice from international experts, we pivoted to Southern Bred Hybrids, a decision that led to flourishing vineyards and high-quality grape production.
